Cup-shaped rock carvings from the Bronze Age
The stone in Konabbe Forest with 36 cup-shaped rockcarvings is from the Bronze Age (1800 - 500 B.C.)
The petroglyphs here are made of the simplest motive imaginable - a dot. Or rather a small circular recess, which is actually one of the most common motives from the Bronze Age.
Archaeologists are still puzzled by the meaning. Are they fertility or sun symbols? Astronomical objects? A calendar-like function? Do the marks represent the deceased? Or was it perhaps the process of immersion itself that was important? What do you think is the best explanation?
Hiking in Konabbe skov
The burial is located 800 metres from the car park at Kågårdsvej.
In the area - which is part of Nature Destination Skovsgaard - there are many different hiking routes.
In the forest 400 metres south-west of the ship settlement you can find a stone with cup-shaped rock carvings from the Bronze Age.
